Pictures That Lie

There was the picture of Katie Couric, the Picture with the extra smoke, the soldier telling the Iraqies to seek cover, the picture of Oprah on a actresses body, and the picture of the rival skaters practicing together. I think that the picture of Oprah really stood out to me because of the way the picture was made. First off, the body just does not fit her face for the picture. There is also the fact that it just doesnt look real. The way the photo is put together it isnt hard to see it is a fake. She is also sitting on a huge pile of money that looks cartoonish and doesnt even fit in with the rest of the picture. It is a very poorly doctored photo in my perspective.

Urban Legends Essay

Everyone has heard many urban legends in their days that make them live their lives with caution at times. I have three stories of urban legends that vary in genre but are very amusing all the same. They may or may not all be true but I’m sure that it wont make a difference in how you feel about the superstition in the end.

“Have you ever heard of the teenager who accidentally hung their self in a Halloween stunt?” one might be asked. Well most people may not know that this question isn’t one to just ask someone as a Halloween scare, it’s a very infamous fact. There in fact was an accidental hanging of a Brian Jewell of Chicago pulling off the gag on a haunted hayride. The police found no sign of foul play, just a prank gone way wrong.

I’m sure you’ve heard the legend of how if you go swimming less than an hour after you have ate that you will get a cramp so bad that you drown. Well that legend isn’t necessarily true. Yes you may get a cramp now and then while swimming but it isn’t from the food you have digested. And seeing that the food doesn’t play a part in it, it must not be able to get that horrible cramp. So go ahead kids, eat your dinner and then just get back to swimming!

Now the last tale I’d like to touch base on is the story that contains the not very well known fact that Coca Cola did indeed used to contain cocaine. Now personally until I researched this legend I always just ignored this legend and thought of it as a funny joke but it turns out that it is actually true. The only thing is that it was a very small amount of cocaine that was used in the syrup so don’t go thinking that you have been drinking straight up crack. But actually, the cocaine was removed from the drink in 1929 so unless your super old, you haven’t had any cocaine in your Coca Cola in your lifetime.

So as you have read in my stories, not all urban legends are true. So you know you cant go believing everything you hear. But then again some of the craziest urban legends are true so maybe you should rethink how you feel about superstitions. But I’ll leave that up for you to decide.

I have seen all my life all kinds of different products that used logos to become more well known and can say first hand that even just a form of font can help you recognize a certain logo or product. I think that logos are one of the most important things in advertising more than commercials even because logos are seen so much more.

What I Learned from the Super Bowl...

I didnt really learn anything new about the media or advertising from watching the Super Bowl this year. Of course they showed previews for upcoming hit movies to excite people and used funny commercials to get people to buy chips and car insurance but there wasnt really anything new and exciting this year with advertising. They just basically did what they do every year with commercials but they do get your attention because there was a lot of action and comedy in the commercials, like movies and food franchises but it is just the normal stuff you see on tv.

"Hip-Hop": Negative Stereotypes in Rap

When I hear the statement "Many rappers are just reinforcing negative stereotypes about urban youth and young people of color" many things come to mind. First off I do believe the statement is true but it all depends on who { rapper } your listening to. Some rappers do just reinforce the negative stereotypes by putting out things like selling drugs for money and killing others because of fights and other incidents but not all rappers do. There are rappers who strictly use this message of violence and drug use and some that dont use the messages at all, but there are those who both use these negative messages but at the same time try to stop all of the violence and drug use in the streets. As a matter of fact, my favorite rapper T.I. is one of these what you may call " Hipocritical Rappers ". For example, in his latest album, Papertrail, he has a song that depicts how violence may be cool in a song called " I'm Illy ", but tries to show how he is against the violence in his new hit " Dead and Gone ". As I said before, T.I. is my favorite rapper so I am definately not going to try and stop him from making his music or be against his messages, but he is in fact one of these hit rappers that has many fans and creates mixed messages on what is cool and what isn't. Is it cool to sell drugs, make money doing it, and fighting others for retaliation? Or is it cool to get a proper education, learn how to read and write, and finish high school so you can get a college education? That is one thing that T.I. and many other rappers need to decide on because there are too many confused teens in the streets that need help doing the right things.

View on class films

I thought that the film with the woman was just a big rip on what men supposedly do. In other words, I thought it was very sexist and stereotypical. The woman just talked about how men think women should look and the way they should act which does not apply to all men. I just think that she had something against men or something because she didnt show how women expect men to look or anything besides what the men assume or think of women and how their behavior is at times.
